Couples Therapy in Hyattsville, MD & Online
Transformational support for your most important relationship
Here to help you discover, embody, and co-create what you want more of.
Secure and loving partnerships have the power to heal us personally and collectively.
A secure and loving couple can change the energy in a room.
A secure and loving couple can impact the environments that children grow up in.
Couples work is community work that can have tremendous intergenerational impact.
When people sit down with me for their first couples therapy session, they are in the trenches of intense conflict, pain, or on the brink of giving up on each other.
Sometimes people come in ready to fight, ready to prove their side of being wronged, and are often desperate to be validated.
I understand all of those impulses.
But as you will learn in working with me, most couples are often missing the strong base required to have safe, productive and vulnerable conversations.
So working with me is about stopping destructive momentum to co-create a strong base together.
With me as your guide, you will learn how to practice being present with one another, reclaim your natural impulses to be together, and experience each other with pleasure instead of trepidation.
Using a blend of models including Internal Family Systems and Transformational Couples Therapy I will help you reclaim feelings of compassion, curiosity and safety that might feel totally inaccessible to you right now.
In disrupting the status quo of your relationship, sometimes couples discover that they are engaging with younger parts of each other. Orphaned children who were harmed long before the pain of today began.
We don't shy away from those children. We bring them into the space through a process called Portrayals.
But first, a mindful moment.
We can't build that strong base, or do portrayal work without learning how to slow down first.
Becoming still.
Trauma doesn't know time. It knows about what has happened, and it knows about what you hope doesn't happen again.
But stillness practices allow you to consider what you might want to experience more of together.
Meditation and mindfulness practices are woven into each session because trauma responses need time settle and unwind.
I wonder.... how would it feel for you to sit next to your partner, eyes closed, for 5 minutes?
With me as your guide, I will help you move through channels of experience together to heal your most precious parts together.
Does this describe either of you? You're a multicultural or multilingual person, a first or second generation immigrant, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, differently-abled, black, brown, Indigenous or another part of the global majority?
Working from an intersectional, trauma informed, cultural framework is my specialty.
